When I was first diagnosed with autoimmune diseases, I began to do an extensive search for ways to aid and assist my body in healing. Infrared Sauna usage is one of the modalities that has been very beneficial for me, with five autoimmune diseases, especially Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, it was very difficult for me to naturally sweat to eliminate toxins. Once I started using the infrared sauna regularly, my body started to gradually sweat and today, I sweat profusely within twenty minutes of being in the sauna.
Using my full spectrum infrared sauna has helped in:
Detoxification: The heat from the sauna promotes sweating, which helps eliminate toxins and heavy metals that can contribute to inflammation and autoimmune responses.
Improved circulation: Infrared heat enhances blood flow, delivering more oxygen and nutrients to tissues, which can support healing and reduce pain associated with autoimmune conditions.
Reduced inflammation: Regular use of my infrared sauna has helped decrease inflammation in my body, potentially alleviating symptoms that I’ve experienced from rheumatoid arthritis and lupus and Hashimoto’s.
Stress reduction: The calming effects of the infrared saunas help lower my stress levels, which is crucial since stress can exacerbate autoimmune conditions.
If you decide to use an infrared sauna, it’s important to follow safety precautions to ensure a positive experience. Here are some key safety tips:
Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water before, during, and after your session to prevent dehydration due to sweating.
Limit Session Duration: Start with shorter sessions (around 10-15 minutes) and gradually increase the duration as your body adapts, typically not exceeding 30-45 minutes at a time.
Consult with a Healthcare Professional: If you have any underlying health conditions or are pregnant, consult your doctor before using an infrared sauna.
Monitor Temperature: Keep the sauna at a comfortable temperature, usually between 120°F to 150°F (49°C to 65°C), and adjust as needed based on your comfort level.
